So, I now have my new glasses. Problems: I can't see the ground when I walk/ when I look to my left everything is blurred. I have to keep my head in one position when on the PC. Distances still seem blurred whereas before they were fine. I am short-sighted and only got them cos I had to take my glasses off to read small print on my phone etc. Anyone had this, and does it improve?!
i had varifocals last year for the first time and i was fine from the word go - the optician did say it might take a few days to adjust to them though. how ling have you had them?
Did the optician position them for you on your nose? They have to be at the correct angle and distance from your eyes. When I went to get mine I felt the same as you, then the optician took them and did a little adjustment and bingo they were spot on. Try shifting them about on your nose and see where they sit the best, but you may have to go back and get them twiddled a bit.
The first time I got varifocals I could not get on with them at all. Everything was blurred.
I went back to the optician and they retested my eyes to find that , in their word 'there has been a change in your vision'...in mine 'the first optician made a mistake with your prescription'. (It was only a week later.)
It put me off varifocals for a long time, but I have tried again and get on fine with them now and did as soon as I put them on.
So, my advice is to go back to the optician and see if they will test you again.
I got varifocals, drove away, realised I couldn't see to left or right and had to turn my head just to see if anything was in side streets. Like peering through a letterbox. Turned round and took them back, not wanting to die. Haven't had any since. Bifocals are fine for me.
Been wearing varifocals for some time now with no problems, need them to drive and reading. Initially they felt a bit strange for a few days, particularly going downstairs.
For looking at my pc monitor I had a separate pair of single vision lenses made up, which suits me better.
I'd give it a couple of days and if your no better, then go back to the optician and explain your concerns.
Larger lenses are better for varifocals. The area of the lens where things are in focus is larger, meaning you don't have to visually search so hard to get the focus exactly right.
I've had varifocals for about 5 years now and they are marvellous but I found that I can't just glance down when on steps/stairs - I actually have to incline my head so that I am looking down at my feet through the top part of the glasses (the distance part in my case) other wise everything is blurry because I'm looking through the close/reading section and I risk losing my footing. Likewise I've found that I can't just glance left or right when driving - I have to actually completely turn my head so that I am directly looking at whatever it is. I'd never go back to two pairs of specs though.
