When To Carve My Pumpkin

How long is the pumpkin face 'good' for? If I do it today, will it be rotten by Halloween?

On TV the other day they said to put it in a bucket of cold water.

Dry it out after carving under heat lamps. Sitars are made from pumpkins & last a lifetime.

It won't dry out by Saturday though and from memory they go smelly and gross after a few days. What ummmm says may be a solution otherwise I wouldn't do it before Thursday at the earliest.

This Morning had a pumpkin carver on last week and that's what he recommended.
