My father used to pose this to me as a youngster:

"If a chicken and a-half can lay an egg and a-half in a day and a-half, how long will it take a grasshopper with a wooden leg to kick all of the seeds out of a dill pickle?"

If anyone else has ever heard of this or a variation thereof, I would be very interested to know!

And by the way, I don't believe there really is an answer...

half a day per half seed, except on every half-hour at which time his average speed is cut in half momentarily.
it would depend on whether his wooden leg was his kicking leg or not and possibly his boot size.
Does your dad make up the Pizza Hut questions about the lady in the purple hat and the meerkat too? ;o)
try a christmas cracker!!!!
Yes, I've heard it, don't know where though. I grew up in the eastern US.

"If a hen and a half

takes a day and a half

to lay an egg and a half,

how long will it take a rooster

to hatch a brass doorknob?"

....that's what I remember from my childhood.

my dad used to say " if a hen & a half laid an egg & a half in a day & a half how long would it take 6 hens to lay 6 eggs". I still can't remember what the answer was.

It would take a day. Each chicken lays an egg a day. Half a chicken lays half an egg, so six chickens would lay one egg each a day.
