Removing adhesive from a book cover

Is there any way to remove adhesive residue (from an old price sticker) from the cover of a softcover / paperback book? It is still sticky / gummy, it hasn't completely dried up yet. I know there are solutions to remove adhesive from plastics, glass, etc., but they are oily and would harm paper products. I have a rare book that would increase in resale value if only I could get the adhesive residue off! Thanks very much!!

Isopropanol alcohol is the stuff to use. Can be purchased in cans from RS (Radio Spares). Next best is lighter fuel, the petrol type, not the gas. Remember, no smoking when you do this, and let the solvent soak the goo before rubbing off. If you start rubbing straight away you will hurt the underlying print. I guess a minute or so should do. Don't be afraid to really soak with the solvent as it will evaporate fairly fast. The solvent melts the goo and you can remove it with tisues or soft cloth.

I know that nail varnish remover works if you have nothing else but be wary of using it on dark colours.
