I am going to tell a big fib when my friend rings up later to check how her cats are that I am looking after while she is away. Will tell her that her naughty black cat was safely tucked up in his bed last night, when in reality, I spent 2 hours calling him and he didn't show. Didn't appear when I went up there first thing, or mid-morning, and has finally brought his paws home at 4.20 p.m. Will only stress her out if I tell her the truth, and quite frankly its not worth it.

In the canteen today I enthusiastically told the cook that the food was lovely as always. What I really meant was 'the bacon was chewy, the sausages looked more like black pudding and the fried eggs could have bounced off the wall they were so rubbery, but it's filled a gap until dinner'.

I am still trying to get Frankie to take his tablet. It is a daily battle - one day I will grab him, pin him to the bed and ram the thing down his throat. It may be the last thing that I ever do.
