Recipes On A Budget
37 Answers
I'm getting bored with my diet, anyone got any recipes to spice it up?
Money is a bit tight at the moment but I still manage to eat well by shopping around. I can buy 2 carrier bags full of fruit, veg and salad from my local outdoor market for less than a tenner, stores like Poundland, B&M and Iceland have been invaluable at times when Ive been a bit strapped.
But even though Im fortunate enough to be able to eat well (when so many are using food banks etc) I would like to try different recipes/combinations of food.
Anyone got any personal recipes I could try out?
(I love hot/spicy stuff but theres only so many curries to concoct)
Thanks.

My pilchard bake should suit you ('cos you like strong flavours). The cheese and mustard together really it give it a bit of clout ;-)

Also try half a can of supermarket own-brand 'value' chicken-in-white-sauce, heated in a saucepan with the addition of some milk (to thin it down a bit) and some blue cheese (to give it some flavour). [I find that sweeter blue cheeses, such as Danish Blue or Dolcelatte, rather than Stilton, work best]. Pour it all over some value pasta and serve it with garlic bread. Delicious!

I tend to buy the same foods because thats what I can afford but I know that theres different and novel ways of preparing them, just didnt know how until tonight, thanks all.
(ps, any more ways still welcome)

Bubble and squeak with a fried egg or a rasher of bacon is one we eat regularly and it's very economical. If you have leftovers use them, any leftover veg plus a potato will do. Otherwise 4 or 5 sprouts and an onion will work. Boil and mash spud add chopped, cooked veg, fry like beefburgers and serve with fried egg or a rasher of bacon - if feeling flush, both!
'Codge modge' seems to exist here, Tilly ;-)
