I have a Packard Bell notebook with a NEC DVD RW model 6500A disk drive.
The disk drive has stopped working it makes all the right noises that it should make when you first close the draw with a disk in it, but the computer doesn't think there is a disk inserted.
I have checked the system information but there is a symbol (a yellow shield with an exclamation mark inside.) I don't remember the exact message (I'm not on my laptop at the moment)
I have tried trouble shooting but no useful answers were forthcoming.
there could be a number of reasons for ur problem--1. the cable conecting ur drive to the motherboard (main circuit board inside ur laptop) has come loose--2. the sybol u mentioned--(yellow+exclamation mark) usually indates no driver for the device or a corrupted driver(a driver is a program ur computer needs to talk to and control ur device)--3. ur driver has packed up--if 1, then u need to open machine and check connections--do this 2nd--if 2. then go to where u went for system info and ask it to reinstall driver--u may need to have a cd with the driver on it to do this--if u don't have that and have win xp then try restoring ur system to the day b4 ur drive stopped working--if 3. then u need a new drive--post back with feedback and more help--cheers--arthu
