Often hear on here that prison is a holiday camp etc. (along with all the myths portrayed by the media that prisoners have access to games, sky tv, etc)
Just wondered how many ABers would like to test that theory?
If you were convicted of an offence and were likely to spend time at her Maj's pleasure, just how do you think you would spend your time?
Gurantee its not how you would imagine.
divebuddy, as has already been pointed out, 75% of ex-cons cannot get a job often because of employers' attitudes (I have already said on here that I would not employ an ex-offender); many become institutionalised after a very short spell in prison; many lack the mental capacity to cope with everyday life such as budgeting, dealing with organisations, cooking, social skills and have little or no family support and quickly get back in their old habits that got them in prison in the first place.
Of course, many prisoners are out and out 'bad' and prefer living outside the law.
While our local thief, burglar & druggie was in prison, his peers worked, mortgaged to eye-balls, owned cars etc. Prisoner is released after 5y+, set up with enviable council (secure)job, 2b flat garden, garage @ 10% local rent, owns new LRover, has Spanish hols & plans to buy villa. His peers still slog on without same perks.
A friend of mine has employed about five ex offenders over the years, all but one in their twenties and none of them convicted for violence. They have never let him down and all except one are still employed by him today so perhaps him having faith in them stopped them from re-offending. Mind it did say if you let him down I'll break your legs in their contracts of employment or so he tells me LOL.
