i didn't know they didn't - i have never really thought about it before. However, scrapping automatic payrises is a good ide.

No and I expect 99.9% of them wouldn't dream of wanting to either.
No but then we only think about them when they are dying for our country or on Rememberance Sunday

Moral is at an all time low, what with cuts in personal, which puts an additional load on those left, and of course the alterations in their pensions etc.

If Doctors, Firemen etc are allowed to strike why not service personnel.
There's a standard of discipline expected from the military that firemen, doctors, and the like aren't expected to meet.
I remember a year or so ago the case of a serviceman who was being made redundant just months before he became eligible for his pension. It was as shoddy a piece of penny pinching by bean counters as I'd ever seen.
