The threads concerning...." what are you eating tonight?"..."what are your drinking?" always, or almost always, includes the date of bottling e.g 2014 etc.
The wines described are invariably "Bog standard " wines, so what difference does the bottling date matter?

"Showing off?"...."Pretentiousness?"....or perhaps both?

I don't drink alcohol but in my younger days I did to fit in.

I liked wine that was white, sweet and fizzy - try ordering that in anything that resembles a posh dining place and the waiting staff actually sneer.

These days Pepsi Max, Diet Pepsi or Diet Coke are my liquids of choice. I love ice cold tap water too.

I'm a wine philistine! I don't drink it very often these days but like sweet whites and only very fruity non dry reds! I like white wine with lemonade too. I'm a lost cause where wine pretentiousness is concerned :)

Wolf, I'm like it with steak too, I'm not a fan of rare meat (or fish) and like my steak and such well done. Not the thing to ask for really, in a fancy restaurant :)

All of that spraf about years and south facing slopes can be copied from t'internet making anybody seem educated in the art of inflating booze prices to impress.
Tonight I'll be mostly drinking John Smiths and Whyte and Mackay and shovelling curry.
