We have a nightlight, both grown adults, one retired but prone to falling over in the dark!

If you'd prefer them not to use it, could you move it to the hallway for reassurance?
I still use one, can't sleep in the pitch dark.

I know lots of people of all ages that do not like total darkness, some leave a light on in the house and their bedroom door open a bit so as not to be in total darkness.

I wouldn't be concerned about her having a dim light on whilst sleeping.
Insisting on removing the light completely could possibly create other issues.

Just continue being supportive.

When they are sleeping ok throughout the night then they can be encouraged to wean themselves off one. Maybe gradually dimmer ones or ones that fade to off. Until then they do no harm and I'd suggest leaving it up to the child.
