If a soldier was given a bounty of £50 in 1712 what would the equivalent in todays money be. Also if he was given 1 shilling each day on leaving the army how much is a shilling worth today.
I thought there was some sort of conversion website, but I cannot find it, thank you for any help.
Use this one: http://www.measuringworth.com/ukcompare/relativevalue.php?use%5B%5D=CPI&use%5B%5D=NOMINALEARN&year_early=1712&pound71=&shilling71=1&pence71=&amount=0.05&year_source=1712&year_result=2014 Rough figures, £50 = just over £6,500 1s =£6.60 using the RPI..
a huge range of results there... It really depends what basis they use to cmopare things with (the price of a loaf of bread? House prices?) You probably just have to take your pick.
