frugalfred, maybe your man found himself on the Launceston treadmill. One of mine was appointed superintendent there I found him by using Trove, the excellent Oz newspaper etc website. Give it a try.

Better than any other such site I've used because as well as an image of each item you are presented with a transcript and are able to edit it for OCR errors.
Hi dotty, I'm still working my way around my family tree. Stuck with a Military man who ended up in an 'institution' in 1911 census.

It seems pretty quiet on here now. Like me I suppose no-one can afford to take out a subscription on all the sites.
I'm still at it. I have hit a hideous brick wall though and just cant get any further back from about 1690 with a family who clearly had money but came from nowhere and eventually vanished into nowhere.

There arent many posts in here tho so - but would help out on the rare occasion I am around.
Re WW1 records, my OH found out a lot about his rellies by contacting the Regiments directly, the Lancashire Fusiliers for example were wonderful, the best £20 he's spent. He has also been in contact with Army records in Glasgow for WW2 although they were not as comprehensive.
On the current version of Ancestry, I am getting fed up with places being moved, eg from Lancashire to Tennessee, taking me ages to edit.
Dottie, I came to a dead end in my researches but keep on looking every now and then.
Not in a position to be able to go to churches or chapels to scrutinise their records.
War records seem to be unavailable.
Would love to know more.
