My teeth are starting to look distinctily grubby. I put this down to age. My dentist is an NHS one, who will do only the minimum when you visit him. I want to give my teeth a makeover- or at least a genuinely good clean to get rid of marks etc.
Is there an over-the-counter way to do this which is safe, or have you asked your dentisit for something specific? Or do I need to go to a specialist?

Best thing is to speak to your dentist. Although you are his NHS patient, he may be prepared to do this work privately - if you are prepared to pay.

Or he may recommend another dentist.

Good information here about tooth whitening, at home and professionally:

I had my teeth whitened by a dentist who does Britesmile bleach whitening. Although my teeth look so much cleaner they still have not lost their creamy tinge. The dentist advised that the best result can be achieved with the take home trays that the dentist makes to measure your mouth. The kits you buy are not really worth it as they contain usually 1% bleach which is not enough. My teeth whitening cost 395, but the trays are usually a bit cheaper dependant on which dentist you visit. If your dentist doesn't do teeth whitening privately you can visit any other dentist you want who is private. Try James Hull dental practices that is where I had mine done and they have dentists all over.
There is only one product that does the job cheaply.........

if you go onto Ebay and type in "Teeth Whitening" you will have lots of products to choose from, very cheap too.
