I like his style. Sounds like my sister. She was a teacher at Huron Heights High in Ontario.
Canada allowed loads of Lebanese immigrants to live there. As soon as they unpacked their attitude the kids were found school placements.
My sister soon found that several Lebanese kids refused to sing the Canadian National Anthem along with the other Canadian children first thing in class. They could speak reasonable English and my sister realised they were not yet word perfect so she wrote the words on a Wall Sheet.
When they ignored it she gave them all a detention and quietly lectured them that she was also an immigrant to Canada and that she was grateful to Canada for the opportunities afforded to her and they should also be grateful
She ended her lecture by saying ,"I learnt to express my gratitude by singing the Canadian anthem at every opportunity and you will bl***y learn it and sing it with the rest of us or you will get more detentions until you do."

/// Is this the same Daily Mail that hounded Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand off the air for saying something that offended its sensibilities? ///
It perhaps didn't offend you or the Guardian, but it did offend most decent minded persons, who also too offence after Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand left a series of messages on the answering machine of the actor Andrew Sachs in which they made crude remarks about his 23-year-old granddaughter, Georgina Baillie.

It's somewhat unfortunate timing, particularly in reference to the transgender issues, as today marks the "Transgender Day of Remembrance", created to mark the sad consequences of transphobia -- which includes physical violence, death and plenty of other consequences besides (eg the recent death of a transgender prisoner in a male prison).
I'm not saying that the situation in current universities is brilliant -- there has been a shift towards protection from controversy that can disrupt debate and close down discussion -- but it's also hardly a new phenomenon for students to be, well, a little overzealous in following their political opinions.
