Hey, brainy DIY'ers, I have a single radiator, 600mm by 1600mm. Basic weight is 25kg (Wickes type 11).
Can anyone tell me how much this would weigh once full of water and can this hang on a total of 4 plasterboard wall fixings? (M5 size fixings, 12mm plasterboard).
A gallon of water weighs 10lbs so you should be able to calculate if you know how many gallons it will hold,I think your fixings should be at least 8mm
I wouldn't hang the radiator on plasterboard fixings.
I would mesure the distance between the two hanging brackets add 20mm and cut a piece of MDF or ply that size x the length of the bracket plus 20mm. Then glue that onto the plasterboard.
No studs Grumpy, it's a dot and dab wall. I was thinking of screwing a piece of wood to the breezeblock (going through the plasterboard) then fixing the rad. brackets to that...
Iggy ....... just use longer screws to fix the brackets... through the plasterboard, void, and into the blockwork.
6mm masonry bit drilled well into the blockwork.
Push red rawlplug into the p/board.
Push a 65-75mm screw into the opening of the rawlplug.
Hammer the screw, taking the plug right into the blockwork.
Remove screw
Fix screws through brackets
Or, do as my builder did 30 years ago, namely, do not provide sufficient anchorage and wander off giggling. It's interesting to watch a radiator slowly peel away from a wall, along with a layer of plaster and board. Interesting but not funny. Do what The Builder says.
