Adaptors

Just a quick question - I have a 500 Gb ext HD (Seagate) conected to my PC via USB. If I were to buy an adaptor, Ethernet (RJ45) to USB, then connected the HD to my Virgin Superhub, would it then be useable as a NAS ??

Don't know for certain but my guess would be no.

A NAS as actually a "mini-computer" (with motherboard, CPU and memory) often running a modified version of Linux as its operating system.

On a basic EHD there is no software to "control" the NAS.

Most NAS devices offer logon for security example and can also be accessed from any PC on the network which the NAS software will control.

You can buy fairly cheap NAS devices for £100 or so.

Reading the write up for the WB NAS I put the link to.

I notice it says you can plug in a external hard drive into the USB slot on the NAS to extend the storage on the NAS.

That may be one option for your 500GB Seagate drive, though to be honest hard disk memory is very cheap nowadays.

I noticed Currys are selling a FIVE TB EHD for £99 at the moment
