Don't know for certain but my guess would be no.
A NAS as actually a "mini-computer" (with motherboard, CPU and memory) often running a modified version of Linux as its operating system.
On a basic EHD there is no software to "control" the NAS.
Most NAS devices offer logon for security example and can also be accessed from any PC on the network which the NAS software will control.
You can buy fairly cheap NAS devices for £100 or so.
