Getting Sticky Stuff Off

My new kitchen was adorned with hooks for towels which were stuck on with double-sided sticky things. Now one of them has broken and I have to replace them , but can't get the broken bits off. I don't want scratches or any other damage to the new(ish) cabinets.
Ideas, please ?

atalanta, you can always hang onto the Sticky Stuff remover when you've finished the job. I've been using mine for minor tasks for years and it still works. It does what it says on the can.

I would do as suggested by tonyav.

There hundreds of uses for WD40 and removing glue is a one; without damaging your cabinets. See Nos 15 & 23 on the following list. :-

Nail polish remover would remove the sticky bits

Fortunately, there was a shelf left over from the kitchen fitting. I'll try dabbing some WD 40 on it to see if anything untoward happens before I try it elsewhere.
Next question - where did I leave my WD 40 ?
