I have quite a large collection of CDs, so I thought I would have a go at organising them last night. But I accidently knocked over a huge pile on to the floor and I now have at least 8 with broken hinges !
These ruddy cases are complete pants ! They are heavy and bulky. We managed perfectly well for many years with our LPs in cardboard sleeves and they are/were much more vulnerable than CDs.
So why we have these ridiculous CD cases, made of the most brittle of plastics I really have no idea.
Some of my CDs have cardboard sleeves, as they were giveaways in music magazines like "Gramophone" and these are fine...light, slim and not at all breakable.
Yes Minty...might give it a go, but the liner notes are quite interesting and sometimes essential for classical music. I suppose could try to put them in the cardboard sleeve as well.
It just irritates me that these ruddy things are so brittle and easily broken !
Not fit for purpose as far as I am concerned and after over 30 years of the CD, you would have thought they would have been improved somewhat.
Yes but sometimes you only get a cd in a card folder - I'm thinking of ones like Ariel by Kate bush. Then you don't think your getting your money's worth
I know what you mean mikey. I ordered a new CD only the the other week and I broke the plastic case the first time I opened it. I've stored all mine away and put all the CDs in proper holders (like photo albums).
In case you want to categorise me too it was the best of Barry White. Full volume in the car on the way to work- better than Weetabix :-)
I actually have mine in categories...male..female...classical...groups...instrumental...compilation....and alphabetical within the categories....! Took forever but well worth the effort !
My point in this thread was partly to query why these jewel cases are so easily damaged, and why we deemed necessary in the first place. They couldn't have been made of more brittle plastic if someone had tried !
As I have said, CDs are inherently less prone to damage than LPs.
