Can anyone help. I feel I have made a mess of my working life and don't know where to turn. I spent 10 years plus as a Civil Servant in Income tax, moved to an accountants and passed my taxation exams but felt I wasn't getting the support I needed and panicked then left to work in payroll at a company. I have now moved to another company doing payroll. My problem is where can I go next? I enjoy payroll but these jobs seem hard to come by and quite junior roles and I don't know how I can work my way up in payroll. I have registered with recruitment agencies asking general accounts jobs - purchase/sales ledger, credit control etc but they say as I haven't the experience in this area I have no chance of getting these positions. I like working with figures. Has anyone any advise as to how I can other progess in payroll or move into general accounts roles. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

You could try contacting your local college and doing the AAT Course (Associated Acounts Technicians Course) This will help improve your job prospects, also as you have lots of payroll experiance you can miss out this module. Try and get your Company to pay for the course. good luck
have a look on www.learndirect.co.uk as this might give you other career options where you can use your skills and experience.
