My dad just moved and has got new router xx all set up an iPhone and iPads working perfectly but his computer not responding ...... He has Windows 7 but his computer is a Packard Bell I media S1800 3.00Gb and 64 bit operating system ... The icon for the Internet in the bottom right hand corner of monitor has a Red Cross in it ..... Can anyone help to see if this computer too old to access a wireless router ????? Usually on my laptop when I get this sign my wifi button is off ??? Any assistance would be great
Right click on the icon that is crossed out and then click troubleshoot. Tell us what it says.
Also check the device manager and look for NetWork Adapters. Click on that and it will tell you if it is wifi enabled. You should see 'Network Adapter' as well as Ethernet
When I look for a new network router set up then it says it's looking fir devices and I should wait 90 seconds .... Nothing happens ....
I clicked on device manage and network adopters but just comes up with 1 entry for ethernet as he had a router hooked up through Ethernet before !!!!
If there is no network adapter listed in device manager then he needs to buy either an internal network card or a wifi dongle which connects via usb. Both are very cheap. I prefer the internal card.
Looking at the specifications for that machine, I can't see any mention of a wireless adapter. (You can't expect any computer to connect wirelessly unless it's got a device for transmitting and receiving either built into it or attached to it!).
