Disposing Of Old Tv

Does anyone know how I can get rid of heavy old tv. It is upstairs. Too heavy for me to bring downstairs. Are there any companies in the.Portsmouth area that do this

You could phone Portsmouth recycling centre, 023 9221 9819, and ask if they could help.

If it's working (even if it needs a Freeview box to be able to actually use it) BHF will collect it for free, so that they can sell it in one of their 'Furniture & Electrical' shops:

If it's not working, Portsmouth City Council will charge a whopping £30 to collect it. (Ideally, it would be better to find someone - such as an unemployed neighbour who needs a bit of cash - to take it to the recycling centre for perhaps half that sum).

Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE) is now controlled by most local authorities. Ring them and ask for advice. An old tv will probably have a cathode ray tube type screen which needs specialist handling to render it safe. It will be vacuum charged like a light bulb but much more dangerous.

Get two young strapping lads to come up and toss it out of the window!......

Some charity shops will take them and come and uplift .

A lot of Charities will not deliver or collect from an upstairs room so best tell them where it is when you ring.

Have you tried places like Freecycle? Or Preloved have a give away free section.

are you friendly with the neighbours ,I would ask them to help you or a relative to take it to the recycling centre.xx

Thank you for r replies. Bhf weren't taking old tv's. I got a house clearance chap. Cost me £45 and the tip is only about 4 mins away but glad I found someone to take it
