Lacrilube ?
10 Answers
For many years I have used Lacrilube for prevention of weeping eyes overnight ( no problem in the day), I have bletharitis & eyes are quite old !!!!
Can anyone suggest a good alternative so that I can get some sleep as it appears there is a problem at the factory where Lacrilube is made so there is none available.

Not my area of expertise, but: VitA-POS eye ointment. I think that this is available OTC without a prescription .

Your friendly local pharmacist (or the frumpy, grumpy, unsmiling East-European pharmacist who seems to be ubiquitous in all supermarket pharmacies these days) will be the best person to ask.
However looking at some NHS documents online suggests that Lacri-Lube is the the same group of treatments as VitA-POS, which should be widely obtainable:

Thanks also Buenchico, gingerbee & madamzajj For your help will set off tomorrow with my shopping list & hope to find an adequate replacement for Lacrilube, can't understand why I was given a repeat prescription for it this morning.
Sorry about best answer you all deserve one I think my finger slipped

birdie 73. I had the same problem with my G.P. he was not aware about the two problems with Lacrilube and VitA-POS if was only when I went in to get my prescription filled that the Pharmacist made me aware of the fact and problems. Apparently there had been a manufacturing problem with Lacrilube grittiness in the ointment. VitA-POS difficult to get hold of at the moment.
i too am unable to get this and the guy at the chemist said to get an alternative prescription from my doc which i havnt got round to doing yet.im not sure if my doc is aware that its unavailable at the moment.if you do manage to buy something else please update if you find it helpful.i really dont like lacrilube as it blurrs my vision so badly but with bletharitis and dry eyes it does help.
Many thanks to everyone who has tried to help, have looked on Amazon & they still have some Vita-Pos this contains same ingredients as Lacri-lube all local pharmacys have sold out. I rang Boots & their eye cream also contains the required ingredients so they have ordered some in should be here tomorrow.
I only use this overnight to prevent eyes watering in the mornings I bathe them with freshly boiled water which removes the stickiness & during the day I use Liquifilm Tears not at all sticky.
I rang my local surgery who told me to take prescription back & they would change it.
