That is often quoted, but I have no idea why. It’s the daftest thing I’ve ever read.//
(a) it's a misquote - it should really be "they believe in anything" - ie any old rubbish. The suggestion was that without established religion people go in for real niche stuff.
(b) but there's no evidence he ever said it anyway.
