Ballymena is prime bigot country. Even so, the reactions the burkha wearer evoked could be seen all all across Northern Ireland. I saw yobs yell from a passing van at a woman wearing a headscarf on University Road.

That is exactly why the burka must not be banned here. Some women would never be allowed outside the house if they couldn't wear one.
I know it isn't the country's laws, but the country's laws and people who support the rights of others to 'wear what they want' are, by extension, condoning the continuing subjugation of these women.

Poor reasoning. Conceding to the oppressor never stops oppression. The men would soon come to their senses when they were stuck with the shopping and the school runs!
Naomi , I think hc was making a sexist joke, it is the only explanation that I can find for an otherwise meaningless statement.
