Am I Odd

for being a (nearly) 50 yr old, that has never once in my life, asked a woman out on a date?
Had a few friends around last night for our weekly get together and the conversation came around to one of my friends who has been on so many 'dates' via the 'Plenty of Fish' website that he should have his own fishing boat by now. I mentioned that I have never once in my life, asked a woman out on a date! All my past relationships seemed to have just 'happened'.
I wouldnt know how to get rejected by a woman (for asking for a date) because ive never been in that position. Im been either lucky or naive. I dont know which.

No worries. Some of got the gift of the gab and others don't. It generally works out. I was always considered very shy as a young lad by all members of my family. I got the few slaps around the chops but did pretty well considering. Been married nearly 40yrs so got there in the end. :-) No you are NOT Odd. My last surviving Uncle (90yrs) in November has never married. He spent most of his life looking after his elderly mother in her infirmity and then looked after his landlady of 40 odd years who ended up a double leg amputee due to diabetes. He bathed her and carried her to the toilet. (Her husband died some time before). He did everything for those ladies and was rewarded with the bungalow when his landlady died. Her kids did squit for her and were most peed off.
He is a happy, caring, sharing old Gentleman. Never had a relationship to my knowledge but he is not ODD either.

Back in the days of dance halls, one would first approach a girl and ask her for a dance, then if that proved successful, perhaps another.
Then came the last waltz, the time to then once again to approach the same girl, it would then generally be during that waltz that one would ask the girl if one could either walk her home, or see her again some time.
It was so easy back then and one made body contact from the very first dance together, not like today when everyone gyrates individually without any close contact being made.

That seems to be very true, today there doesn't seem to be any 'romance' in the true sense of the word.
Back in my day, one thought themselves lucky to actually hold a girl's hand on the first date, and if one went to the cinema together, one was on 'first base' if one managed to put one's arm around the girl, and that was only after the start of the second film.
