When some revellers end up in A&E, is it right that they should "NOT BE CHARGED" for their self inflicted treatment? ( one of my serious moans )

The health problems that come from smoking or obesity could be said to be self inflicted. Should people suffering from them have to pay?

Yes

Can not be bothered now Murray, too expensive, prefer to have my Tot at home, all the best to you and all xx
Very difficult to define "self-inflicted". What about a footballer who breaks a leg, a cyclist who falls off his bike or a kayaker who bangs his face on a rock etc? These are all activities we are being encouraged to do, so charging them would be wrong (I think) although their injuries are self-inflicted. Someone would have to make a big list of all the allowed and disallowed activities if they were going to charge. You could bet your life that someone would fall off a bike because they were drunk and a big court case would follow to decide whether or not they should pay for their treatment.
thanks TWR..best wishes to you and yours xx

The difference with your list is BHJ, those people are not Izzzed
TWR - So are you suggesting that everyone who goes to A&E is breathalysed to see whether they should be charged or not?

I did say revellers, the ones that are out of their head on drink, as my Manager Daughter at our local A&E sees every year.
It would be much more expensive to prove who is responsible for their own injuries. Taxpayers already pay, so maybe education instead of charging.
They have already paid (well some have) through their taxes.

What is the difference between that and having a car crash or getting cancer through smoking - all self inflicted!
As another example, supposing I am walking along minding my own business, when a drunker reveller comes along, smashes my face in and knocks me unconscious. How do they know I'm not a drunker reveller without breathalysing me?
