I have a small confession to make. After having been a committed sprout-hater for 62 years, I ate 5 at Xmas Lunch today !

And they weren't bad...they weren't terribly good either but they weren't too bad. Perhaps in another 62 years I might get to actually like them !

But at least I have stopped feeding them secretly to whatever dog happens to be under the table !
Just finished our Christmas lunch( bit late) and we had some lovely sprouts, very small, but lots of flavour and for the first time for a long time I managed to persuade my son (35) to try them. He pronounced they were 'not too bad' - praise indeed. The one thing we don't like is Christmas pudding too heavy after a big meal. Having a Sainsburys Taste the Difference Limoncello Buche de Noel when we have room later on!
Small sprouts from a stalk......almost cooked then whirled around in a pan with hot butter and toasted almonds and breadcrumbs.......always put a little X in the bottom to let the devil out.......☺
do i discreetly tell doris where she's going wrong with the sprouts or not?
Only if you want a clout with the iron you've bought, Ael......you did get the smoothing iron, didn't you?...x
baby sprouts cleaned up, no scoring and 4 to 5 minutes in a steamer, larger one 7 to 8 minutes - a quick toss in butter and black pepper. yum.
I used to hate sprouts, but I have been eating them recently. The secret is very short cooking I just steam them for 2 to 3 mins. Makes all the difference. All the jokes about cooking them for days has rubbed off and most people over cook them. No cross either !
No cross, Eddie?....Then the devil will be in your sprouts....you'll be windy til Easter.... :-(
No cross and no wind, and I normally f*rt like a trumpet!
It'll come, Eddie....it'll come......and we'll all know about it so bad will it be........ :-(
//you did get the smoothing iron, didn't you?...//

of course i did gness, doris also received a large picture of our pet dog (my avatar) which for some reason delighted her even more than the iron ...
Have you tried mashed potato with just a few sprouts mashed in are nice .
love sprouts..especially if you toss in some very crunchy lardon bits
Be serious, no one likes sprouts.

Instead ?????
One has no need to replace that which has no worth.
Yes, we had loads of sprouts. Everyone (9 people that I cooked for yesterday) loved them. Don't overcook them, and don't put a cross in them.
The leftover sprouts will be mashed up with the potatoes and fried for lunch. Yum.
Yes we had sprouts with chestnuts, lovely they were.
love sprouts, I eat them all the year round!
