If he uses the AA or RAC route planners, they should take him on a route avoiding any closures including flooding.

^^Yes the AA route planner has 'Traffic News' it highlights any problems or delays on your chosen route and offers an alternative if there are delays.

Go to the AA route planner that I gave a link to and enter the route, it will tell you about any floods on that route.

I am in Manchester and I am pretty sure the motorways are clear north of here.... I mean there has been nothing on the news here

the rain has missed appleby - predicted 5 inches and hit various places inc the one that divides M and Salford - irk and irwell

a bit of downtown Manch flooded - down by the law courts and Mark Adderley

M62 very slow by Middleton where a hole had opened up
