I am having a problem removing a printer which I no longer have connected, when I highlite the printer on the remove/install it does not disappear with a message telling me,"this action is only valid for products that are currently installed" anyone any ideas how I can clear this printer I have cleared out all traces of files and references relating to the previous printer.


I am having trouble trying to connect my printer useing the manufactures installer.

Re-connect and re-install the printer. THEN uninstall, then physically remove printer from the computer. You cannot uninstall a device that is not connected. The operating system searches for the hardware to uninstall, and if it is not found, it produces an error.
P.S. Removing files does not uninstall anything. Uninstall is a totally different process. Removing files does not remove registry entries, and this information is not sufficient to uninstall. Windows and/or installation programs log install information and uses this to remove files and registry entries loaded with the install. However, windows and many installers are not very efficient, and often leave files and/or registry entries that, over time and many install/uninstalls can cause poor performance and even serious crashes. A good registry cleaner, run once a week or so is a good idea.
