I live in a cul-de-sac and for some months now one of our street lights has been out. I called some time ago and a daft wee fella said "oh can you describe the light" I described and told him the light was on the garden of a certain number of a street. "Oh said he - that was reported some time ago - we will get it sorted" - the lighting is bad enough in the street as in very dark - what next - I am not going to ring again - would it be better in writing. Thanks. All of us pay tax - surely to God - they can fix one bloomin light. Thanks.

Best to email council for certain delivery & evidence of query. I always email my council about pot holes, as they are dangerous to cyclists & bikers.

Of course I add a threat that my email will be evidence for any accident = instant repairs ;)
Ah the turning the lights off doesn't add to accidents. May as well save money, never put them on, pull up the lampposts and sell them for scrap then. Any investigations showing leaving your front door wide open and going on holiday doesn't lead to more theft ?
Global warming leads to climate change, and we are seeing the effects now in the north of England.

I am therefore all in favour of street lights being turned off during the night.
.... sorry, I meant to add Scotland and Wales suffering the flooding, not just England.
Jenny...I had this problem with the street light outside my house, and the only solution to getting it fixed is to keep on reporting it.

Keep a diary and write down exactly when you made each complaint. Follow up these with letters to the Chief Executive. It won't hurt if you contact your local Councillor and get him/her on your side.

Get everybody in the cul-de-sac to report as well !

After a battle that lasted 8 months this year, we were finally rewarded with one of those marvelous new LED lights. I was present when it was installed and it to about 20 mins, thats all !

thanks Mamy for your link - but I can't get started - it says type location - but nowhere to start to put the location so of course won't let me click onto the other symbols.

There's a village near me where it is so dark most nights that there's no difference whether your eyes are open or shut. So everyone just carries stout torches.
That's what we do.
