Not good.

Had a little accident today. OH went up town and I decided I wanted to go look around in the loft (not good) we haven't got a loft ladder so took a pair of step ladders upstairs, I had a problem getting the ladders to lock but eventually they did, but they looked a bit vertical but I thought go for it. I'm not good on ladders but very slowly crept up the ladder. Got to the top, on top rung just hauling myself up and ladder went over, there I am hanging onto the edge of hatchway, arms gave way and I fell, scraping under sides of arms of hatchway and landing on ladders ouch!! Lay on floor for ages in agony thinking can I get up or not. Eventually I moved ooh the pain. Got over it later, arms are black and blue, I felt very shaken all day, and now my arms are really hurting. I consider myself so lucky I didn't break anything.

Tonight OH says we have a set of loft ladders in the shed, bought years ago for a boat (don't ask), he has not got the fixing bits and the hatchway will need enlarging so it's a no go, typical male who doesn't want to investigate possibilities,
Ladders really don't bother me - I remember as a kid having to climb to the top of the grain bins to close the hatches if it rained and my dad wasn't around. It's the stepping off bit that puts the willies up me!!!!!!
Although about 6 months ago I went to help a mate of mine fix his gutters - he lives alone and needed someone to foot the ladder. Watching this chap who has the balance and skill of a piece of jelly scared the living daylights out of me. In the end I couldn't watch anymore and insisted he come down and let me go up and do it.
