"scanning & Repairing Drive (C)" On Startup

Sorry to bother you again, hope someone can help. I have an Acer Aspire M3400 Windows 10 update desktop pc. Yesterday every 10 minutes, my computer would freeze before going to the DPC Windows violation blue screen & restarting. Today, on startup, it has gone to the "scanning & repairing drive (C:) : 0% complete" screen & has been on 0% for an hour. How long does this normally take ? Is there any way to deal with this or should I call in a computer repair expert ? Thanks for any help today & in the past

Is there an option to say "ok carry on" or words to that effect?

Is the hard disk light flashing?

Note it can take HOURS to scan and correct a hard disk. I set one going a few weeks ago and cancelled it after about 3 hours when it was only a third of the way through.

Leave it on overnight and see if it changes from 0%.

Your hard disk MAY be on the way out so if you do manage to get in to Windows then make sure you backup all your important files as a matter of urgency.

If you don't do a backup as soon as you get back in to Windows you may find the next time the computer wont even start up and you will have lost your chance.

For over an hour and still on 0% doesn't sound good. If it's still at 0% tomorrow investigate diskrite. It's worked for me in the past. I'm assuming it's been kept up to date and can still have a good stab at resurrecting failed drives still.

Vhg - No ok carry on option, hard disk light on but not flashing, had the computer on for 5 hours but still at 0%
