Am I the only one who thinks that it was just a tad OTT?

He was a great British artist but does he really deserve the first
30 minutes of Sky's/BBC bulletins all day?

My young grandson asked me if a member of the Royal family
had died!

I've just realised that there is a similar theme on the News section.

Bumped into him in Geneva many many years ago.
He was at a local museum with a young boy.
I did not recognise him , but person I was with did.
So I had a look at him secretly and it was definitely him.
I love his music and variations in his music.
Sad loss to the variety of music

It's also a very slow news day, so they have to pad out the programs somehow. BTW, he was a game -changer in the music industry and some of his work is totally original.

Not at all, toalisa. I agree that the coverage was somewhat ott. Everyday "ordinary" people die, many of cancer, and their passing is mourned by all who knew them, their deaths just don't attract such attention.

I don't think there was wall to wall coverage all day. BBC music 6 played non stop Bowie all morning, Radio 2 played quite a bit as well. Sky News mentioned him first in their updates, and there were perhaps two documentaries in the evening. Not wall-to-wall.
I was seeking out more Bowie coverage.

If it isn't Bowie it will be the middle east or striking doctors, I rarely watch the news as I only have so much capacity for worry....... He was very important to popular music. I made a point on another thread that he joins an elite list of uk performers, Lennon, Mercury for example who's music genuinely inspired people. A big loss, but after the initial shock it will be back to the ususal doom and gloom
