Sd Card Problem

Hi!
I've just bought a Panasonic Lumix TZ70 camera. The card is SD but when I put it in my Belkin multi reader nothing happens. My XD card was so easy downloading instantly to Picasa, now I'm at a loss to know what to do next, so all help very welcome. I've downloaded the Panasonic software, but still not recognized. Help!!

You can go into sd card find photographs then copy and paste.

I assume there are pictures on the card - can you see them on the camera when you put it in pplayback mode?

One of my card readers doesn't like it if the safety lock on the card is in the "lock" position. It shouldn't matter if you're reading the card but it's worth trying the switch in both positions.

Could it be your new SD card is too large for the Belkin card reader?

If the new SD card is 32Gb or 64Gb or whatever it may be the Belkin reader can only accept 16Gb or less for example.

See if you can find out on the web the maximum size of SD card the Belkin reader can accept.

Good thinking VHG. If the card reader is more than a few years old it may not accept SDXC cards (above 32GB) or even SDHC cards.

Thank you so much for your speedy answers. The photos are there in Playback mode - but there they stay. My card is only 16gb but it's not a good fit and I believe the Belkin Reader is about 5 years old , so do you think this is the problem?

It could be. I just bought one of these - it's only for SD/SDHC/SDXC cards but it works with my two Panasonic cameras:

Just checked the card. It's SanDisk Ultra 48 MB/s then it has HC with 10 in a ring - if this helps at all.

Perhaps I'm missing something here. Why not plug the Camera into the pc with the usb cable and then transfer the pics with copy and paste to your pc?
You do not need a card reader.

It's an SDHC card, class 10, which defines the read/write speed, although Sandisk put the speed on the card as well. Sandisk are good quality cards, so I don't believe it's a card problem (I use only Sandisk).
The most likely problem, as VHG suggested, is with your card reader. Early SD cards were low capacity and readers were designed to cope with them. As camera sensors increased in size people wanted higher-capacity cards and the SDHC format was introduced. Things progessed even further with camera sensors and the SDHX format appeared. The early readers will not cope with SDHC and SDXC formats and I suspect that your reader might fall into this category. If you can Google your card reader you might find what types of cards it can read.

SlackAlice - my last 2 cameras didn't come with a connecting lead, perhaps Cetti's didn't either.

You may find as I did you have a compatible connecting lead for something else. Found this out after purchasing a lead. Being Scottish that did rather annoy me.

You are a clever lot. I didn't realise using the USB cable was an option. It took 45 mins to transfer 9 pics.....but it worked, so thank you for everyone's advice.
