Bank Account ?

I'm really hoping there is someone here who can advise me. We are holding a large reunion this year, and we wanted to open a bank account for when people pay. A couple of us went to HSBC yesterday and were told that all their accounts have to have £500 a month paid in! Our only other option is for op someone who already banks there, to open another savings account in their name. This defeats the object. Surely this isn't correct.

Ask them about their Community Savings Account it for small clubs or societies.

Thanks for your replies. I don't think online would be suitable Dave. We haven't tried a building society, but will do next week. That Community Account seems to fit the bill. I'll look at that properly.

"Surely this isn't correct." - what isn't correct? they banks have their rules. They will have a basic account that he must offer by law but that won't work for a group.

Bank clerk went all whoopy and felt she was being harassed so had to sit down and call for an assistant.... who was pregnant and didnt feel that she should be cast in the role of protectress and assistant when she was in the arly stages of 'an interesting condition' and went whoopy herself -and I said this is a bank for chrissakes not an antenatal clinic
