Do We Need To Believe In Something ?

A believer recently told me he believes in God, despite lack of proof because he has an inner need to.

There’s some wonky moderation going on around here again. Since when did observing that a refusal to answer on the grounds that the opponent is homosexual is a cop out become a zapping crime? I would have thought I should be commended for speaking out against blatant homophobia! ;o)

I found it nearly impossible to choose a best answer but mikey 4444 and the Stephen Fry video was well argued.
I would add that Atheism is not a Belief.
I have said this before, a Disbelief in a God does not equate with an alternative belief. Many believers have difficulty in accepting that concept.

I've no doubt many Atheists may have their own weird and varied
(my words ) views about the universe and the supernatural but that is irrelevant to their disbelief in Gods.
