Just noticed that a cardigan I bought last week still has the security tag attached. Is there any way of removing it or do I have to trail back to the shop?
You'll probably have to lug it back to the shop. Those things are designed to be not easily removed (by shoplifters), so any attempt by you to remove it will no doubt damage the cardigan.
If you search Youtube for 'remove security tag' thar are loads of videos that claim to show you how to do it. (Rather than embed any particular one here, I'll let you choose the one that looks best for you).
Or, of course, you could just read the 'related posts' below ;-)

Take it back, and politely let them know the cost of travel/parking in having to do so. They may be generous enough to give you a gift voucher to cover the costs.
Don't google how to remove it as all security tags are different, if you damage it you will not get any money back
That's happened to me a few times. It's a damned nuisance but the shop does have to be the ones to remove it. Didn't work very well did it ! I would tell the manager, they can see by your receipt who was the culprit who should have removed it.
The only time this happened to me I couldn't be faffed and tried to take it off myself. Completely ruined what I'd bought. I'd take it back to the shop - although I would be cross. Anyone can forget but why didn't the door alarm go off?
Agree with take it back to the shop. I had this happen recently, on my route to take it back I set off every shop alarm except the one I bought it from.
