my partner pays child maintenance to his ex but he is coming up to retirement. He will receive a lump sum from his private pension and a monthly amount, will he have to pay child support from the lump sum and or the monthly pension? He will not receive state pension for another couple of years.

he will have to carry on paying whatever the agreement says he must pay. Where it comes from is not relevant.

Given his age Im surprised the court order did not take this into account. Go back to the original order and stick to what it says. If there is a significant decrease in income he may want to return to court to have the decision looked ta again but at that point they may well look at the new situation and the lump sum.

He's self employed. No court order it was set through the csa

If your partners income will substantially decrease when he retires he may be eligible to ask CSA to reassess his case. He is legally entitled to a certain amount to live on before he pays the child maintenance so it might be reduced.
