Any Ideas Why This Should Be ....
4 Answers
We are treating our diabetic dog with insulin injections twice daily and the syringes cost 80c each ...ie $80.00 per box of 100.
I cannot buy these direct because I'm not a vet but bulk syringes for humans cost about $8 -10 per 100 and while not identical can be substituted for the animal ones ....any idea why there should be such a difference in price....

My own guess is that it's partly the economics of scale involved in production (i.e. there's probably vastly more insulin produced for humans than for dogs) and the fact that manufacturers know that they have to sell insulin for humans at a price acceptable to government-funded health services, whereas they know that they can charge far more to pet owners.

Thanks Chris, I didn't really think I'd get a clear answer for my query ....I agree the number of syringes needed for the animal population would be far fewer than for the humans, but I really thought the price difference was quite substantial .....maybe Charlie's are gold plated, I just haven't found them yet !!
Luckily his diabetes is being controlled by his insulin and I guess that's all I'll really need.
