Tonights Moon.

At 22.45 tonight there is a bright star to the north west of the moon, approx. two moons away, anybody know what it is?

Yes, it was impressive. I think it's actually over 15000 moons away, but it does look bright

You can see Mercury (just about), Venus, Mars, Saturn and Jupiter all in a curve across the sky if you get up about 5.00 am and the sky is clear.

....and Venus is even brighter than Jupiter

Yes there's a special alignment of 5 planets with the moon at the moment, visible early dawn reaching its best view on Feb 5th apparently.

I saw them this morning. Mercury is very faint and low down in the eastern sky.

If it twinkles its a star, if it doesn't its a planet.
