New Legal Minimum And Living Wage.
I hear recently about a new legal minimum and living wage. What is the difference ? Which is the higher/lower ? Is it taxable ? What about 18-21year olds ? Is there an equivalent in the EEC ? Is it the same in London ?

National living wage starts from April 16th £7.20 an hour for workers over 25 years of age. All wages are taxable if you earn over the tax allowance for your situation. Do not know about the EEC . It is the minimum that it is legal to pay. It replaces the minimum wage for most people but under 25s and people in training and apprenticesh ips still have a minimum wage.

As I understand it, the 'living wage' is the wage rate needed for you to be able to live. The 'minimum wage' is the minimum wage rate that employers are legally obliged to pay. The difference between the two is the abuse of employer of employee due to underpaying for their labour; and which the hard working taxpayer is expected to cough up. Latterly it seems some government folk are misusing the term 'living wage' to mean the 'minimum wage' in the hope of fooling folk into thinking that they are doing the right thing.
