How To Get Wi Fi

I'm moving on Monday to a different area - the cottage has a bt broadband land line which I don't particularly want - Is there a way for me to get a wifi connection for my computer - I use the internet a lot so really am trying to find the cheapest way to get access. Am not at all technically minded so please treat me like a complete idiot with replies! thank you.

Yes. I don't have a landline connection and i have been quoted by £230 by BT to have one installed, so i'm obviously looking at cheaper alternatives.

If BT can guarantee you decent speed, Ken, I'd pay up and get the new customer deal. Maybe you can haggle them down if you agree to sign up for 2 years.

RATTER15, whilst I couldn't agree more that an ISP will supply all the necessary equipment, the user does not have to do so.

Loads of people out there buy they're own modem/router because they're dissatisfied with the ISP supplied model. They are invariably bog-standard models no matter what ISP you select.

I provided more detail to explain to the OP what he needed should he take the latter course either now or in the future. A modem router is needed not a router regardless of whether its sourced from the ISP or PC World.

Let's get the terminology straight and stop calling modem routers by the title "router".

I use it quite a lot, now, hc. I often do a 3/4 hour shift on Friday night and another on Sat morning studying the football and the horses. And i'm usually on it 3 or 4 hours a day through the week. It's just that when i actually NEED it to be working perfectly, it isn't. Or, at least, that's how it seems - i obviously notice it (and feel it) more when i'm trying to get my bets on.

Haha, of course i mean 15GB. What confused me was that, whilst my monthly allowance is 15GB, my outstanding 'remaining data'is measured in MB. Just looked back through some of my bills and seen that I very rarely go over the 10GB mark. This rules out the mobile wifi thingummyjig with it's 2GB data per month!!
