Ah, Kate Robbins. Remember this one, a song that featured on Crossroads? Crossroads isn’t a million miles away from crosswords and it turns out Kate’s late uncle was Bert Danher, a highly regarded cryptic crossword setter for the Guardian, Independent and Telegraph.
I have few claims to fame, but now have Kate as a mate on Twitter (private messages and all that), which all came about when I pointed out that her name is an anagram of a band who were around in the charts at the same time – Bronski Beat. She came back to say her name is also an anagram of ‘a bit bonkers’. And, for that, respect!

As I was manoeuvring to take a pic, Boardman asked me if I was a binman (random!). You know what they say about repartee – it’s the really witty comment you wish you’d thought of sooner. I wanted to say “Yes. And I was in Liverpool last week – it’s only place we do deliveries”. But I thought of it too late.
