Is it ok to give the horses by us apples and cauliflower ?

Hi this may seem a silly question have looked on the internet but can't find anything apropriate , is it ok to give the horses in the fields by us the leftover apples and cauliflower and brocoli leaves . Am i doing anything wrong ? thanks

I've never heard of giving horses cauliflower.

Apples are fine, but not too many. When you do give them, either give them whole or chopped into nothing smaller than quarters.

Also, if you get the chance, speak to the owners. They may have one or more of the horses on a special diet for some reason, and they mightn't appreciate your 'help'. Also, you might not be the only one giving such little treats to the horses, and we all know what happened to Jack's little pony, Tom.

Please don't feed the horses without speaking to the owners first. It is difficult to control the amount horses eat at this time of year and over feeding can cause laminitis.

Horses do like cauliflower by the way, well at least my 5 do.

Make sure the leaves are fresh. Also never give horses grass cuttings, as they become heated and ferment in their stomachs, causing colic.

Apples should be sweet eating apples, and as someone else said, cut them up. If you give carrots, slice them lengthways rather than in round pieces.

Most people don't like their horses being fed as they can become 'nappy' and bite when things are offered.

If you do get permission to feed them, put it on the ground.
