Whilst flicking through the Freeview channels today probably 1200-1300 but not certain of the time I came across the very end of a programme which appeared to be the true story of a US sub that had sunk. Can anyone tell me the name of the programme and channel please.

War drama about a US submarine commander bent on destroying a Japanese aircraft carrier and avenging the death of his wife and child. The commander's first encounter with the carrier was disastrous when he was tricked into sinking a ship carrying over 1,000 US prisoners, including his own family. Now, as he grows ever more obsessed, he finds himself on a collision course with both the enemy and his second-in-command. With Glenn Ford, Ernest Borgnine, Diane Brewster, Dean Jones, and LQ Jones.(1958)

Dave.
There was a film called Submerged on True Movies

Did spot another war film around your time - was it colour or b&w?
The Sea Chase on More 4
dont give us a clue will you

there is one coming up reg now with William Bendix
you can look him up on imdb

I can only remember him as a comedy fella in late fifties replays
yes replays IN the late fifties of b/w films of before ....

quite a populat theme
as there was discussion about shooting germans for unrestricted sub warfare and their defence of #'well the americans did it as well'

one Brit RN sub captain wouldnt take on prisoners unless they promised to tell all ( boat and not a sub )

This is the 3rd attempt at posting this reply. I only caught the very end where it was saying the American captain would never captain another submarine and its crew would always be remembered so was obviously a factual story. Being a ex submariner myself anything on this subject is of interest to me.

I think the programme was on the True programme and was a documentary about the UUS Squalus from 1100-1300.
