/// One advert on the Universal Jobmatch site stressed it was “essential” an experienced painter and decorator was able to converse in Polish. ///

We should demand that all workers should first speak fluent English, but then that would be of no use to those employers who want a pool of EU cheap labour.

No wonder most of business want to stay in the EU.

Togo, I can confirm Jackdaw dropped his zlotys and all I can say is 'oh my krak ow' :(
andy-hughes, I don’t know what you’re talking about. Your post at 17:49 Fri contradicts your post at 15:14 Fri.
Suppose the advert had said it was essential that the candidate could converse in French,German or Italian , would you still have asked the question?
It's all sort of polygotal aint it.
''Those employers who want a pool of cheap EU labour''
AOG the minimum 'living wage' will be £7,20 per hour for all employees over 25, there is no 'cheap' rate for non Uk workers.
The headline says, 'WANTED workers...but ONLY if you're POLISH...' but I couldn't see any examples where applicants had to BE Polish. Have I missed something?
Eddie, £7.20 is a cheap rate. And many employers find ways around paying the minimum/living wage. (some of them legal)
THECORBYLOON, that's what I inferred from the article also.
