Some people are afraid of heights; thankfully not me, but I have a mild phobia about spider webs (not spiders, though).
Years ago, on holiday in Greece, I free climbed a small rock face while my girlfriend was sunbathing. At the top there was a slope of about 45 degrees, long dry grass, with hedges at the top. There were no holds and the only way I could get to the top – and to grab one of the hedge's roots – was to lunge forward. I launched myself face first into a thick, clingy web; horrible! To make things worse, the hedges weren't actually growing. They'd been chopped down from elsewhere and placed to stop walkers on the path above going too close to the edge, so as I grabbed at them I just pulled them away because they weren't attached to anything.
Thankfully the slope was just enough in my favour to stop me falling, but that cobweb experience still makes me shiver.
