Early on in his Presidency, Bill and Hilary Clinton were in a remote desert gas station- cum- diner filling up. The mechanic emerged from the garage to fill their car. “Why, it’s you, Hilary!” he exclaimed. “Long time no see. You haven’t changed a bit.” he said as he moved forward and gave her a huge hug. He filled their car and they went on their way....

The mechanic emerged from the garage to fill their car. “Why, it’s you, Hilary!” he exclaimed. “Long time no see. You haven’t changed a bit.” he said as he moved forward and gave her a huge hug.
He filled their car and they went on their way.
“Who was that?” asked Bill. “Oh, that’s little old Elmer Finklestein. We dated a few times when we were at college, but we lost touch.”
“Wow just think” said Bill. “If you’d have carried on seeing him and you got hitched you would have been making coffee in a desert diner now, married to a garage mechanic instead of being the First Lady”.
“No, “ said Hilary quietly. I’d still have been married to the President”.
Sorry, I know next to nothing about US politics and politicians and have been unable to take any of them seriously since Dwight D Eisenhower left office. :-)
