When I was a child, about 1956-58 I had a toy scooter. The scooter was unusual in being propelled by a pedal at the front (not the Triang one). The pedal was like the handle on some garden spades and forks, being a Y-shape with a bar across the two arms of the Y. The wheels were solid, about 12" in diameter (no spokes) with solid rubber tyres. It had no brakes, and it was built like a tank. I don't know the make or where it was made. My Dad bought it for me, and I think it was second-hand. He died many years ago, so I can't ask him about it. We sold it (in Warrington) about 1959-60. I have never seen a scooter like it since then, and much googling has failed to reveal a match (though a similar, but flimsy-looking one can be found on the Esty site). Did you own one back in the 50s? Do you know where I could find one?

Hi Bertie Could it have been a Mobo scooter? I well-remember my Mobo scoter. I was born in 1948 and must have had it early 50's onwards. I loved that scooter! It had a red footplate and handlebars (?) and yellow wheels - definitely no brakes! Brakes were for woosies I just wore out my Clarkes sandals against the back wheel instead. Good luck with your searching.

No, dubsie, I don't think it was. I've looked at a load of images when I googled . Many were red with yellow (spoked) wheels, but none had a pedal. Did your Mobo have a pedal?
